NEWS BRIEF: French pay TV channel Canal+ has commissioned a second season of historical period drama Marie Antoinette, produced by Capa Drama and Banijay Studios France, with filming due to begin this autumn.

The story sees the young queen, played by Emilia Schule, and King Louis (Louis Cunningham) now at the height of their power but facing a financial crisis and impending public revolt. Banijay Rights handles distribution and the first season has been sold into more than 70 territories, including the UK (BBC2), US (PBS Distribution) and Australia (BBC First).
