Buccaneer Media, the London-headquartered production company behind crime drama Marcella, is developing a TV adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting follow-up The Blade Artist.

The Blade Artist will see Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, T2: Trainspotting, The Full Monty, The World Is Not Enough) reprise his role as Trainspotting’s ultra-violent Francis Begbie.

The 6×60’ TV adaptation of Welsh’s 2016 novel is set in Los Angeles and Edinburgh and picks up 20 years after the events of Trainspotting.

Welsh, Carlyle and Buccaneer’s Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart will serve as executive producers.

Buccaneer is also currently in post-production on an adaptation of Welsh’s Crime for Britbox.
