Marblemedia heads to Mars with Stargate showrunner Robert C Cooper for new series

Toronto-based production company Marblemedia is partnering with Stargate showrunner Robert C Cooper and his production banner Mezo Entertainment to develop a live-action sci-fi series called Generation Mars.

The planned 10×60’ project is based on a book series of the same name by author Douglas D Meredith.

Cooper, who was also showrunner of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency for BBC America, has signed on as showrunner and executive producer.

Set in the year 2053, the series chronicles a perilous extraterrestrial endeavour from the point of view of an extraordinary family.

Explore Mars, a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to achieve human exploration of Mars within the next 15 years, has also boarded the series. Its CEO Chris Carberry and president Janet Ivey will consult on the TV series.

In addition to showrunning the original Stargate series for MGM, Cooper also co-created Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe.
