MaeBee, The Underglow and Mojo Swoptops S2 among BBC Children’s commissions

Karrot Entertainment and Kavaleer Productions toon MaeBee

BBC Children’s and Education in the UK has commissioned a slate of new and returning series for 2026 and 2027.

Coming to CBeebies in spring and summer 2026 is MaeBee, a 52×7’ animated series from Karrot Entertainment and Kavaleer Productions about a determined young gnome with big dreams and her quirky foster twin.

From Finland’s Gigglebug, in partnership with Finnish pubcaster YLE and A Productions, comes The Underglow (50×7’), which was pitched at Cartoon Forum last month. Scheduled to air on CBeebies in autumn 2027, the animated series follows a diverse gang of characters who explore, invent and uncover mysteries in an oddball setting far from the human world.

Another new commission for CBeebies is Luna in Dreamland (26×7’), an animated series from Flickerpix that aims to help children overcome their fears and anxieties and spark conversations about their feelings. It will launch on iPlayer in 2027.

Blue Zoo’s animated series Mojo Swoptops has a second season

Returning series commissions for CBeebies include season two of Blue Zoo’s animated series Mojo Swoptops (52×11’), due to debut in October or November 2026 and season two of Strike’s live-action football show Football Fantastics, slated to air in June 2026 to coincide with the men’s Fifa World Cup.

Meanwhile, a new live-action commission for CBBC is The Next Step: Cheer, a spin-off to teen drama The Next Step. Produced by Boat Rocker Studios, the 20×24’ series follows a struggling cheerleading squad with big dreams of making it to Nationals. It will premiere in spring 2026.

Also for CBBC is S2 of docuseries Stage Stars, which follows the students at UK performing arts school Tring Park. Produced by Drummer Television, the first season debuts this month, with S2 (15×24’) set to launch on iPlayer and CBBC in autumn 2026.
