Made Up Stories, Fifth Season on Binge original commission Strife

Strife is based on Mia Freedman’s memoir

Bruna Papandrea’s Australian production company Made Up Stories has commenced filming on new local scripted series Strife, which is being made in partnership with US content studio Fifth Season.

Brian Walsh

The series is being produced for pay TV group Foxtel and its streaming subsidiary Binge.

Foxtel’s Brian Walsh, who died earlier this month, was the original commissioner and exec producer on Strife, alongside commissioning editor Lana Greenhalgh.

The series is an adaptation of Australian media maven Mia Freedman’s memoir Work, Strife, Balance, which covers the past 25 years of publishing, digital media and the TV business down under. The series is written and adapted by Australian screenwriter Sarah Scheller and is directed by Stuart Bowen.

Joining series lead Asher Keddie is an ensemble of established and up-and-coming talent including Matt Day, Jonathan LaPaglia, Tina Bursill, Emma Lung, Maria Angelico, Rhys Mitchell, Olivia Junkeer, BeBe Bettencourt, Bryony Skillington, Lucy Ansell, Darcy Tadich and Willow Speers.

Papandrea, Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky all serve as executive producers for Made Up Stories, alongside Freedman, Scheller and Binge’s Alison Hurbert-Burns. Keddie also exec produces.

Made Up Stories is producing the series in partnership with Fifth Season, which will also handle international distribution. The show has received significant production investment from Screen Australia and Binge, and is financed with support from Screen NSW.
