Love Nature greenlights originals on sharks, extreme sleepers and woodpeckers

Planet Shark uses tracking tech to capture shark behaviour

Blue Ant Media-owned wildlife network Love Nature has greenlit three new originals, including coproductions with Canada’s CBC and US local station group WNET.

Planet Shark is a 3×60’ docuseries that takes viewers on underwater expeditions with the world’s leading shark scientists, who use next-generation tracking technologies to capture dramatic and surprising behaviour.

The show is produced by Big Wave Productions for Love Nature and has already been acquired by National Geographic.

How the Wild Things Sleep is a 1×60’ doc about some of the most extreme sleepers on Earth, monitoring the sleep patterns of a wide range of wildlife to discover their sleeping behaviours and oddities.

It was produced by Taglicht Media and Tell Tale Productions, and coproduced by CBC, Germany’s WDR and Arte in France.

The final commission is Woodpeckers: The Hole Story (1×60’), produced by Coneflower Studios and coproduced by the WNET Group. The special examines the diversity and impact of the world’s 240-plus species of woodpecker around the globe.

In addition to premiering on Love Nature’s linear and streaming platforms and co-finance partner channels, the new programmes will also air on Sky Nature in the UK, Germany and Italy, with Blue Ant International handing distribution.
