Lovato UFO series joins Peacock unscripted

NBCUniversal-owned US streamer Peacock has ordered a number of unscripted shows, including one in which singer Demi Lovato investigates UFOs and another about a cruise ship overwhelmed by Covid-19.

Unidentified with Demi Lovato (working title) will follow the performer, her best friend Matthew and her sister Dallas as they attempt to help uncover the truth about the UFO phenomenon.

The four-part series will see Lovato, a believer in alien visitors, attempt to convince her friends, family and her millions of followers that not only are there intelligent beings beyond Earth but that they are already here. It is produced by GoodStory Entertainment in association with SB Projects.

Peacock has also ordered WWE Evil, a series created by wrestler and actor John Cena, who will produce and narrate the series, that aims to be an entertaining “psychological exposé” of World Wrestling Entertainment villains.

Former NFL quarterback Joe Montana, meanwhile, is to be the subject of a multipart Peacock sports documentary produced by NFL Films.

It will feature Montana’s first-hand account of his career from his earliest days as a high school All-American, to National Champion at Notre Dame and ultimately becoming a four-time Super Bowl winner and NFL Hall of Fame inductee.

The Cena and Montana titles join a growing catalogue of sports entertainment programming currently streaming on Peacock, which is set to stream the Tokyo Olympics later this year.

These include the documentaries My Pursuit: Life, Legacy & Jordan Burroughs, In Deep with Ryan Lochte, Lost Speedways and Michael Phelps: Medals, Memories & More.

Peacock has also added the documentary series Perfect World: The Gamer Murders (working title) and the documentary films Downey Wrote That (wt) and Diamond Princess (wt) to its originals slate.

Three-part docuseries Perfect World: The Gamer Murders tells the true-life account of a group of friends who find themselves plunged into a real-life techno horror story.

It explores a bizarre murder mystery in which an international group of gamer friends must work together to uncover a killer’s identity in order to stop him before he kills again. It is produced by Lusid Media.

Downey Wrote That, meanwhile, is produced by Network Entertainment in association with Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Broadway Video

The film will explore the sketches, contributions and enduring influence of Jim Downey, one of the most impactful comedy writers in the history of NBC institution Saturday Night Live.

Diamond Princess, produced by Matte Pictures and Goldcrest Features, reveals what it was like to be on the cruise liner when it was overwhelmed by Covid-19 in early 2020, using eyewitness accounts and passengers’ cellphone footage.
