UK children’s television producer Mel Taylor has left the BBC after over 20 years and set up her own company, See You There Studios.

The Manchester-based producer is creative director at the new outfit, more details about which will be announced “in due course,” Taylor said on LinkedIn.

The International Emmy-nominated producer left the BBC in December having worked at the UK pubcaster for over two decades on children’s shows such as Blue Peter and Newsround.

Taylor was nominated for an International Emmy for her work as producer and director of the Newsround special documentary Let’s Talk About Periods in 2022.

She also worked on programmes such as Saturday morning entertainment show TMi, fact ent format Dengineers and the recent animated special featuring Children in Need charity mascot Pudsey Bear.

Taylor said: “Big changes are afoot in 2026. After an unbelievable 20-plus years working at the BBC I enjoyed my last day there just before Christmas.

“Honestly, it’s been a blast and I leave feeling incredibly proud of the shows I’ve made and hugely enriched by all the talented people I’ve worked with.

“Having the opportunity to produce content for children and families to help them make sense of the world around them has been an absolute privilege. Making programmes for young people that can bring some joy and silliness, or broaden horizons and inspire, or educate and inform has been the most brilliant job to have.

“I leave the BBC bursting with knowledge, experience, skills and passion and I’m very excited (and mildly terrified) to be launching my own company, See You There Studios, later this year. More updates on that in due course, but for now I’m wishing everyone all the very, very best for a great year ahead.”
