Locomotive Global Media to retell All3Media’s Boat Story for Indian viewers

Paterson Joseph and Daisy Haggard in the original Boat Story

Mumbai-based Locomotive Global Media has taken exclusive rights in India to All3Media International’s scripted drama Boat Story and is developing a local remake.

The show will be adapted for India by Mayank Sharma, who is known for creating, writing and directing three seasons of Prime Video original series Breathe.

Locomotive Global Media will produce the remake, having previously remade US drama Ray Donovan for Netflix in India.

Originally released in 2023, Boat Story was commissioned by BBC One in the UK and Amazon-owned Freevee in the US and Germany. The 6×60′ thriller was written by Harry and Jack Williams and produced by All3Media-owned Two Brothers Pictures in association with All3Media International.

The UK version tells the story of two hard-up strangers who stumble across a haul of cocaine on a wrecked boat. After agreeing to sell it and split the cash, they quickly find themselves entangled with police, masked hitmen and a sharp-suited gangster.

The deal is the first scripted format agreement between Locomotive Global Media and All3Media International.

Showrunner and director Sharma said: “It is a fun, madly entertaining show with relatable yet quirky characters that keep you hooked until the end. While we aim to preserve the original’s essence and we are excited to infuse local flavour and fresh perspectives into our version that packs the show with action, humour and thrills specifically tailored for the Indian viewer.”

Jaenani Netra, VP of finished sales and formats for Asia at All3Media International, added: “It is a great choice of show, as Boat Story doubles up as a gripping thriller and a darkly comic drama.”
