While no formal statement was issued by HBO or its parent company, Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), Bloys’ new job title was used in a press release announcing the greenlighting of a new half-hour comedy from Chuck Lorre.

For Bloys, whose previous role was chief content officer at HBO and HBO Max, the title change comes three months after he was given a five-year contract extension by WBD.

HBO and HBO Max have been riding a wave of momentum this year, netting 38 Emmys last month including best drama (Succession) and best limited series (The White Lotus).

The premium cabler also recently released its Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon, which HBO said was its most-watched series debut of all time.

Bloys joined HBO in 2004 as director of development of HBO Independent Productions, before being promoted to VP of HIP, in 2005.

The following year, he was named VP of HBO Entertainment, spearheading the development and production of comedy series and named senior VP in 2009. He was upped to executive VP of HBO programming in 2013 and president of HBO series, late night and specials in 2016.

Bloys’ new title is in line with other execs who report directly to WBD president and CEO David Zaslav, including Warner Bros TV Group chairman Channing Dungey, chairman and chief content officer of the US Networks Group Kathleen Finch, and chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide Chris Licht.
