Lionsgate’s executive VP of worldwide television production Gary Goodman has signed a multi-year deal to remain with the US-headquartered studio.

Goodman, who has been with Lionsgate for 17 years, heads the company’s slate of scripted series as well as overseeing its TV production facilities in New York and Atlanta and its soon-to-open facility in Newark, New Jersey.

The company’s TV arm, Lionsgate Television, is currently producing around 20 scripted series, including The Rookie, Ghosts and Power Book III: Raising Kanan, as well as several shows that came into the Lionsgate fold with its acquisition of Entertainment One in December.

Goodman has been a key figure in Lionsgate Television’s growth from a relatively small indie to a studio generating more than US$1.5bn annually, working on influential and popular series including Mad Men, Orange is the New Black, Weeds, Nurse Jackie, Nashville and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

More recently, he has shepherded production on several iterations of the Power franchise, in addition to BMF, P-Valley and The Serpent Queen for Starz, Mythic Quest, Acapulco and Manhunt for Apple TV+, and John Wick prequel series The Continental for Peacock and Prime Video.

Other current titles being produced under his watch include Extended Family for Peacock, half-hour comedy The Studio for Apple TV+, and The Hunting Wives and Spartacus sequel series for Starz.

“Gary’s production leadership has been a vital part of our success for nearly 20 years, successfully guiding us through the pandemic and last year’s double strikes with minimum interruption and down time,” said Lionsgate Television Group chair and chief creative officer Kevin Beggs and vice chairman Sandra Stern in a statement.

“He has been a key driver in expanding our production footprint with new studio facilities and will continue to be a valuable member of our television leadership team and a source of innovative production expertise.”
