Lionsgate Television signs Minx creator Ellen Rapoport to overall scripted deal

California-based Lionsgate Television Group has agreed an overall scripted content deal with Ellen Rapoport, creator of the HBO Max comedy series Minx.

The announcement comes four months after the premiere of Minx, which stars Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson and is executive produced by Paul Feig. Set in 1970s LA, the show follows a young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher to create the first erotic magazine for women.

Rapoport is also the showrunner and executive producer on Minx, which was renewed for a second season in May.

Rapoport’s other credits include co-writing the screenplay for Paramount’s feature film Clifford the Big Red Dog and writing Netflix’s 2020 movie Desperados.

News of the pact with Rapoport comes two weeks after Lionsgate Television Group struck a first-look production deal with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack’s production banner Le Train Train.

The acting and producing duo will produce scripted TV projects across a range of platforms, including an adaptation of the UK comedy Lovesick.

According to Lionsgate, it currently has more than 100 series across its scripted, unscripted, Debmar-Mercury and 3 Arts businesses. Over the past year, 14 new shows produced under the Lionsgate banner have been ordered to series.
