Lifetime reveals unscripted quartet

US cablenet Lifetime has ordered four new unscripted series including a fashion reality competition from the producers behind Project Runway.

Threads (8×60′), from The Weinstein Company, Full Picture and Sara Rea Productions, sees competing teenage fashion designers showcase their gift for style while attempting to impress judges.

It joins Matador-produced Born in the Wild (8×60′), which explores unusual locations for natural child birth, makeover series Girlfriend Intervention (8×60′) from World of Wonder, and Ish Entertainment’s docu-sitcom Kosher Soul (12×30′), which follows hip-hop star O’Neal McKnight.

Lifetime is also developing three new series, including dental makeover show Smile; competition-reality programme Worst Stylist Ever; and Ugly Models, a docu-series that looks at the world’s leading modelling agency focused on representing unusual looking people.

Rob Sharenow, exec VP and general manager of Lifetime, said the new shows represented the growing importance of unscripted programming to its schedule.

“With larger-than-life characters and never-before-seen worlds, each of these projects will push our boundaries and strengthen our position as a leader in the unscripted space,” he said.

Sharenow made headlines back in January when he claimed unscripted television was in the midst of a “creative crisis” with too much derivative programming being pitched and commissioned.
