Luke Hemsworth-narrated virtual reality doc announced by White Spark Pictures

The Great Kimberley Wilderness is narrated by Luke Hemsworth

Australian factual prodco White Spark Pictures (WSP) has announced virtual reality (VR) documentary The Great Kimberley Wilderness, narrated by actor Luke Hemsworth (Westworld).

Set to premiere at the Western Australia Museum in Perth on November 23, the 1×35’ title was filmed in 360-degree 3D VR and explores the dramatic scenery of the Unesco World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park.

The Great Kimberley Wilderness is the first completed VR doc arising from a content fund partnership between three leading museums, the National Museum of Australia in Canberra, the Western Australian Museum and the Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum in New Zealand.

They provided AUS$1 million (US$660,000) to invest in the making of three VR films: The Great Kimberley Wilderness, Journey of the Giants and The Kermadec Islands.

Screenwest and Lotterywest also provided funding for The Great Kimberley Wilderness.

Briege Whitehead, founder and creative director, WSP, said: “We are excited to deliver the first film from this game-changing, world-first content partnership.

“In addition, with the recent budget cuts and commissioning slowdown for factual, we are experiencing an upturn in approaches from mainstream documentary producers looking to understand the growing opportunities for VR and how they can adapt their skills.

“As a result, we are now in the process of exploring several interesting new potential partnerships with TV and film producers.”
