German production and distribution group Leonine Studios has picked up worldwide sales rights to new political thriller series Bonn.

Bonn is produced by Germany’s Odeon Fiction for local public broadcaster ARD. It’s the next Odeon series following Spy City, which recently premiered on streamer AMC+ in the US.

The series is based on true historical events during the rise of the young Federal Republic between the Second World War and the return to everyday life. In the midst of this tension culminates the political tug-of-war between two rival German intelligence services, the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Gehlen Organization.

The cast includes Mercedes Müller, Max Riemelt, Sebastian Blomberg and Martin Wuttke. It is based on an idea by Gerrit Hermans and is directed and written by Claudia Garde.

Odeon Fiction’s Philip Voges and Fabian Winkelmann produce the series in cooperation with Prague’s Wilma Film. The series was filmed on locations in the Czech Republic and North Rhine-Westphalia and wrapped shooting in mid-July.

Bonn will air in primetime on Germany’s public network Das Erste.
