Left Bank adapts Sarah Pinborough thriller Insomnia as Paramount+ UK original

US-based streamer Paramount+ has added an adaptation of author Sarah Pinborough’s novel Insomnia to its slate of UK originals.

The six-part drama is being made by The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures and will begin filming in the UK later this year.

The plot follows a successful career woman who fears she might be losing her mind when her hard-won dream life starts to turn into a nightmare. A couple of weeks before her 40th birthday she stops sleeping, just as her mother had done at the same age and right before she suffered a violent psychotic break.

The series was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, deputy chief content officer for the UK at Paramount.

The exec producers for the series are Andy Harries, Jessica Burdett and Tim Bricknell, and Charlotte Essex serves as producer. Pinborough is adapting her work for the screen and Sony Pictures Television will distribute the show internationally.

Paramount+’s slate of scripted UK originals already includes A Gentleman in Moscow, The Ex-Wife, The Flatshare and Sexy Beast.
