Latest instalment of family saga Ku’damm 77 leads ZDF Studios’ Mipcom slate

Ku’damm 77 is set in the divided Berlin of the Cold War

Germany’s ZDF Studios has unveiled a Mipcom slate headlined by family saga Ku’damm 77, which will have a world premiere screening in Cannes, in addition to a slew of other titles spanning drama, kids and unscripted.

Ku’damm 77 (3×90’ or 6×45’), which is an extension of Ku’damm 56, 59 and 63, is set in a divided Berlin in the late 1970s and explores themes of identity, tradition and rebellion. It is produced by UFA Fiction, created by Annette Hess and directed by Maurice Hübner.

Also on the drama slate is The Puzzle Lady (3×90’/6×60’, Factual Fiction and December Films), which stars Phyllis Logan as a crossword-loving amateur sleuth whose quiet village hides more than clues, and Weiss & Morales (4×90’/8×45’, RTVE, Portocabo, Nadcon, ZDF and ZDF Studios), a cross-cultural crime drama pairing a German BKA agent with a Spanish Civil Guard sergeant in the Canary Islands.

Other scripted titles on offer from ZDF Studios include romantic family series Top End Bub (8×30’, Goalpost Pictures), which follows an indigenous lawyer who returns to Australia’s Northern Territory to raise her orphaned niece, and period detective drama The Lady Grace Mysteries (20×24’), about the daring adventures of a teenage noblewoman who fearlessly solves mysteries.

The latter series is produced by Cottonwood Media and Coolabi Group in coproduction with ZDF, ZDF Studios and the BBC, and pre-sold to France Télévisions. It is being distributed by both ZDF Studios and Federation Kids & Family.

On the kids front, the German company will be shopping Magic Moves Kids (8×22’/4×45’), an unscripted series focused on showing a new way of empowering children with hemiparesis, a condition characterised by muscle weakness or paralysis on one side of the body.

Produced by Produced by ZDF’s Content Laden, the project sees 10 kids participate in a two-week programme combining intensive motor skills therapy with the art of magic, guided by Germany’s top magicians the Ehrlich Brothers and a specialised medical team.

ZDF Studios’ unscripted offerings include ancient Egypt docuseries Pharaohs at War (4×50’), produced by Pernel Media in association with RMC Story, Histoire TV and ZDF Studios, space exploration series Into the Universe (8×50’, Go Button Media in association with Super Channel and ZDF Studios) and Indonesia’s Volcanic Islands (3×50’, produced by Doclights in association with NDR, Arte, Terra Mater and NHK).
