UK production company Kudos Film and Television is exploring plans for an adaptation of Swedish-Danish crime drama The Bridge.

Shine-owned Kudos has picked up format rights to the series from Swedish producer Filmlance, which is also a Shine subsidiary.

The show follows a joint investigation between Swedish and Danish police after a body is found on the bridge between Copenhagen and Malmö.

Filmlance produces The Bridge (10×60′) with Denmark’s Nimbus and a second season is in development. Filming is set to begin this autumn.

The original series launched in the UK on digital network BBC4 on Saturdays after the pubcaster picked up the show from distributor ZDF Enterprises last October.

A Shine spokeswoman confirmed Kudos has rights to the format and was looking at developing possible remakes.

An English-language version of the crime thriller would mark Kudos’s second recent foray into Swedish drama after it picked up format rights to Real Humans, a futuristic drama about robots living alongside people, produced by Matador Films. An English version is already in development.
