Korea’s MBN orders local remake of France’s TF1 format Mystery Duets

Singing competition format Mystery Duets

South Korean cablenet MBN has commissioned a local adaptation of French singing competition format Mystery Duets from London-based sales boutique Can’t Stop Media.

The Korean version of the show will be produced by Image9Coms, producer behind the local remake of Got Talent, in association with format expert Jin Woo Hwang’s Something Special, who will also produce the show along with Masked Singer creator Wonwoo Park.

Mystery Duets was originally produced by Banijay France’s DMLS TV for French commercial network TF1, where it premiered earlier this year. It has been sold to other broadcasters including Russia 1 and has 20 territory development deals with ITV Studios, Banijay, MTV3, Vincent TV and Blu Yazmine, spanning countries including Brazil, India, the UK, Germany and the US.

In Mystery Duets, the nation’s most famous singers and celebrities perform a duet without knowing who they will share the stage with. They each repeat the song unaware of the other celebrity singing alongside them. It is only in the middle of the song that they discover each other’s identity as the screen between them rises.
