Killing Eve to end with season four

Jodie Comer in Killing Eve

BBC America drama series Killing Eve, starring Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, will end after its forthcoming fourth season.

The final season of Killing Eve will begin production this summer before airing on AMC- and BBC Studios-owned BBC America in the US and BBC1 and BBC iPlayer in the UK in 2022.

Produced by Sid Gentle Films, Killing Eve first debuted on BBC America in the US and on BBC iPlayer and BBC3 in the UK in 2018. The broadcasters and producers are exploring potential spin-offs from the series, according to Variety.

Based on the Villanelle novel series by Luke Jennings, the thriller follows British intelligence investigator Eve (Oh), who is tasked with capturing psychopathic assassin Villanelle (Comer). As the chase progresses, the two develop a mutual obsession.

Each season of Killing Eve has been led by a different head writer, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell and Suzanne Heathcote taking on the role for seasons one, two and three, respectively. Laura Neal (Sex Education, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) is head writer for season four.

Exec producing on the fourth season are Neal, Waller-Bridge, Oh, Sid Gentle Films’ founder Sally Woodward Gentle and MD Lee Morris, Gina Mingacci and Damon Thomas.

Dan McGolpin, director of BBC iPlayer and channels, said: “Killing Eve has become one of BBC iPlayer’s most successful programmes ever across the first three series; they have been streamed over 175 million times and are still going strong. We are all looking forward to finding out how this masterful tale, with its fascinating and complex characters, will end and what twists and turns there will be before we get to the final scenes.”
