Keith Haring art doc heads to ZDF, SVT

Broadcasters in Europe including Germany’s ZDF and Sweden’s SVT have acquired documentary Keith Haring: Street Art Boy from factual distributor TVF International.

The 53-minute film was produced by BBC Studios for BBC2 in the UK and PBS in the US. The doc reveals how the late graffiti artist blazed a trail through the legendary art scene of 1980s New York and revolutionised the worlds of pop culture and fine art.

In addition to ZDF and SVT, the film has been picked up by YLE in Finland, Belgium’s VRT and AVROTROS in the Netherlands.

SVT has also acquired Doing it in Public: Art for the People from TVF International. The 1×60’ and 1×98’ doc is a Felix Media production for ABC in Australia and considers the importance of public art.

Elsewhere, RTVE in Spain has picked up ABC’s Can Art Stop a Bullet? (1×60’/1×90’), which examines the stories behind some of the world’s most iconic artworks, often born from conflict, to explore the role of art in achieving change.

Meanwhile, TVF International has added two BBC commissions to its arts slate. Gauguin: A Dangerous Life (1×60’) re-assesses the French artist in light of feminist, colonial and indigenous studies, and Titian: Behind Closed Doors (1×60’) offers an opportunity to view the Italian painter’s Renaissance masterpieces together.

TVF International has also added German regional broadcaster SWR’s Inside the Uffizi (1×60’), which offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the oldest art institution in the world.
