K-drama What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim to be adapted for Philippine market

Stars of the Philippines version of What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, Paulo Avelino and Kim Chiu

Philippines network ABS-CBN and Hong Kong-based streaming platform Viu are to collaborate on a Philippines remake of South Korean romantic comedy series What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim.

To be produced by ABS-CBN-owned prodco Dreamscape Entertainment, the Viu Original series will star Kim Chiu (Pinoy Big Brother) and Paulo Avelino (Walang Hanggan) and is about a self-obsessed vice-chairman of a major corporation, who will do anything to stop his secretary from leaving the company.

Originally screened on CJ-ENM-owned pay TV network tvN in 2018, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim is based on a novel of the same name by Jung Kyung-Yoon. It has also been made into a webtoon comic.

The new remake marks the third time that ABS-CBN and Viu have adapted an international format, following on from their partnership on The Broken Marriage Vow and Flower of Evil.

Cory Vidanes, ABS-CBN’s chief operating officer of broadcast, said: “We extend our heartfelt thanks to Viu for once again placing their trust in ABS-CBN as we embark on yet another exciting partnership. We are thrilled to bring the Philippine adaptation of a popular K-Drama series to our viewers as we also showcase Filipino talent across the world.”
