Brazilian media giant Globo has revealed the new structure of its digital products department, and has hired former Mercado Libre employee Julia Rueff to lead its Globoplay streamer.

As part of the restructuring, key executives will leave the company, including 20-year veteran Raphael Corrêa Netto and Teresa Penna, who joined Globo 15 years ago and was one of the founders of Globoplay.

Marcia Menezes, head of the publishing division, will also end her time at Globo at the end of the year.

The changes will allow Globo to “act in a more strategic, integrated, agile and synergistic way,” the company explained.

The digital products and paid channels department will be renamed digital products and will be led by Manuel Belmar.

Julia Rueff, previously VP of Marketplace at Mercado Libre, the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America, joins Globoplay as CEO.

With nearly 20 years of experience leading digital environments and experience in business transformation, Rueff will seek to consolidate Globoplay as “a premium consumption destination for the Brazilian public, from an increasingly fluid and modern experience.”

The team will also include Tatiana Costa, who will take over as director of entertainment channels and news & content, an area that now integrates content management with non-sports pay channels; Eduardo Gabbay, who continues to lead sports channels; Rodolfo Bastos, who takes over as director of editorial products; and Andrea Tuttman, who will lead the new intelligence and portfolio area.

Eliseu Barreira leaves the digital products department after more than 10 years to join the integrated businesses in advertising department.

“A competitive and increasingly challenging scenario requires us to be more agile in the decision-making process, to be attentive to new opportunities and certainly to have a more integrated vision of our operations,” Belmar said in an internal letter shared by Globo.

“Our brands and products are strategic assets for the future and our ability to harmonise and enhance the strength of this group will be an absolutely defining element in overcoming our challenges,” he added.
