Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial, from Fox-backed indie studio MarVista Entertainment, will premiere on September 30 after being fast-tracked into production.

With Mark Hapka (Parallels) playing Depp and Megan Davis (Alone in the Dark) as Heard, the film follows the tempestuous relationship between the couple, both in and out of the courtroom.

The Tubi original movie is produced by Autumn Federici and Kristifor Cvijetic through their The Ninth House banner. Executive producers are Brittany Clemons, Angie Day, Marianne C Wunch, Hannah Pillemer and Fernando Szew.

The film is directed by Sara Lohman (Secrets in the Woods). Also starring in the film are Melissa Marty (Station 19) and Mary Carrig (Law & Order True Crime).

Tubi’s chief content officer Adam Lewinson said the project is a “timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”

MarVista’s senior VP of creative affairs, Angie Day, added: “In partnership with Tubi, we have taken a thoughtful approach to capture the story from both sides in Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial, in a new ‘ripped from the headlines’ format that is both in depth and almost in real time.”
