John Cleese to write and star in Fawlty Towers reboot with daughter Camilla

John Cleese, Connie Booth and Andrew Sachs in the original Fawlty Towers

US prodco Castle Rock Entertainment has closed a deal with British actor John Cleese to revive classic UK sitcom Fawlty Towers.

More than 40 years since the original, Cleese will return to write and star in the sitcom alongside his daughter, Camilla Cleese.

Fawlty Towers originally ran for two seasons on UK pubcaster BBC Two between 1975 and 1979. The series followed the lives of Torquay hotelier Basil Fawlty (Cleese) and his wife Sybil (Prunella Scales) as they tried to keep their business and marriage afloat.

The new series will explore how the cynical and sarcastic Basil navigates the modern world, teaming up with his recently discovered daughter to run a boutique hotel.

American actor Rob Reiner and his actor wife Michelle Reiner will exec produce with director and producer Matthew George and Derrick Rossi.
