Joel Stillerman is leaving AMC Networks to become the chief content officer at US streaming service Hulu.

Stillerman, currently president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, will join Hulu this summer to oversee the company’s overall content business and strategy.

Craig Erwich, the former Fox veteran who joined Hulu in 2014, will continue to lead original programming as senior VP and will report to Stillerman, who in turn will report to CEO Mike Hopkins.

Stillerman joined AMC from producer Yolo Films in 2008 and subsequently worked on hit series such as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.

Hulu has embarked on an ambitious growth strategy recently, with a live TV streaming service in the works and an aim to double its spend on original content.

Earlier this month it entered into a coproduction with the UK’s Channel 4 for House of Cards creator Beau Willimon’s next series, The First.

Hopkins said: “This year is a transformative year for Hulu – not just in our products, but also our investment in acquired and original content.

“Over the past several years, we’ve grown our audience and our content offering exponentially, and now is the right time to add Joel’s creative and strategic leadership to the team and drive the next phase of Hulu’s content business.”
