Children’s content exec Jo Redfern is exiting her role as MD at Canada’s Wind Sun Sky Entertainment (WSS) after one year as she makes a return to media consulting.

Redfern, whose appointment at the Vancouver-based company was revealed last September, made the announcement on LinkedIn.

“Thrilled to announce that after a 12-month adventure in Canada with Wind Sun Sky I have made the exciting decision to return to media consultancy and building in the digital realm,” she wrote, adding that she would have more news to share soon about her next moves.

Redfern relocated to Canada last year to take the role at WWS, where she was responsible for growing the company’s kids’ business, with oversight of franchise development, content distribution and gaming and video production, in addition to focusing on WSS’s eco-initiative Future Chicken.

Before that, she had worked as global head of brand at digital brand-building company 24 Watts and head of brand at the BBC Children’s and Education division.

In her LinkedIn post, Redfern said that “Roblox, YouTube, social storytelling and growing communities is, I believe, where the future lies for creators.”

She later told C21 that she sees “white space where I can add value for IP and rights owners in transmedia strategy – which involves building a holistic strategy across broadcast, social video, social gaming and consumer products.

“It’s never been more important for all content and platform strategies to work in harmony to sustain and grow users, fans, audiences – whether you’re a studio, broadcaster or a sporting organisation.”
