Jay Baruchel agrees first-look deal with Canada’s Boat Rocker Media

Toronto-headquartered Boat Rocker Media has signed a first-look deal with Canadian actor, writer, producer and director Jay Baruchel.

Through the deal, Baruchel will develop and produce original TV shows, films and digital programmes.

Baruchel is known for his lead role in the FXX comedy Man Seeking Woman, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2017. He also starred in hit 2013 comedy film This Is The End and provides the voice of Hiccup in the How to Train Your Dragon film franchise.

He recently hosted the Amazon Prime Video original series LOL: Last One Laughing Canada, which is produced by Boat Rocker-backed factual specialist Insight Productions, and is a series regular in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s upcoming untitled spy adventure series for Netflix.

The Baruchel agreement is the latest on Boat Rocker’s growing list of first-look deals. The company has also recently signed deals with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi’s Maroon Visions, Dakota Johnson and Ro Donnelly’s TeaTime Pictures and Shamier Anderson and Stephan James’ Bay Mills Studios.

Upcoming Boat Rocker projects include Slip for The Roku Channel and Orphan Black: Echoes for AMC.
