Javier Pons has left his role as co-head of TV at The Mediapro Studio and CEO of Globomedia, based in Madrid, to join NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises in Miami.

The move comes four months after Spaniard Luis Fernández took over as executive president of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, replacing Beau Ferrari.

Fernández reteams with Pons, who was his right-hand man during his years as president of RTVE. In 2007, Fernández appointed Pons as director of the Spanish public broadcaster, a position he held until resigning in 2010, two months after Fernández left.

The Mediapro Studio does not plan to announce an immediate replacement for Pons.

Pons has an extensive career as a producer and director in Spain, with stints in countries such as France or Mexico.

In 2016, he became general director of Globomedia, a producer of the Mediapro group that under his mandate produced series such as El internado: Las Cumbres (Prime Video), Vis a vis (Atresmedia), El Ministerio del Tiempo (RTVE) , Por H o por B (HBO) or Nasdrovia (Movistar Plus+).

With the creation of The Mediapro Studio in 2019, Pons also became co-head of TV at the studio, first sharing the position with Laura Fernández Espeso, current CEO, and then with Javier Méndez.

Pons began his career in radio, on the Prisa group and the French M40 stations. In television he has been general director of the Catalan production company El Terrat (today part of The Mediapro Studio) between 1999 and 2007, director of RTVE between 2007 and 2010, and executive producer of the Mexican broadcaster Azteca TV between 2014 and 2015.
