Japan’s TBS packs gameshow, thriller formats to unveil at MipTV showcase

Singing competition format Outsing the Choir!

Japanese broadcaster Tokyo Broadcasting System Television (TBS) will pitch three formats to international buyers during the Talk of Tokyo showcase at next month’s MipTV event in Cannes.

Two of the shows, Kamiwaza: The Superhuman Skill Show and Outsing the Choir!, are unscripted competition formats and the third is scripted thriller format My Family, which is currently streaming worldwide on Disney+.

Kamiwaza: The Superhuman Skill Show premiered in 2021 under the name The Kamiwaza Challenge and a series is scheduled to air in a primetime slot on TBS from April.

It features a mixed group of celebrity and civilian contestants taking on a series of difficult challenges inspired by social media stunts.

Outsing the Choir! is a musical gameshow in which two teams of contestants face off in a singing showdown. Each contestant must sing their chosen song perfectly while not getting thrown by the live in-studio choir.

Drama My Family focuses on the strain placed on familial bonds by the kidknapping of a young daughter.

The Talk of Tokyo showcase starts at 11.30am on Monday April 17 in Auditorium K at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.
