Japan’s NHK and Taiwan’s PTS prepare for blast off with space exploration doc

NHK Obihiro Station and PTS are to coproduce a space exploration documentary

NHK Obihiro Station, a regional service of Japanese pubcaster NHK, and Taiwanese broadcaster PTS are to coproduce a new space exploration documentary.

It will follow Taiwan’s first-ever rocket launch by Taiwan Innovative Space, which is scheduled for Spring 2025. It will be the first foreign rocket to blast off from Japan’s Hokkaido Space Port.

The documentary will detail Taiwan’s space research industry as well as Japan’s revitalisation of the Hokkaido facility, by combining agriculture with space port development.

PTS and NHK Obihiro Station will jointly conduct the research and filming. A signing of the copro agreement took place in Taipei yesterday with Junji Matsuoka, director-general of NHK’s Obihiro Station and Cindy Shyu, the president of PTS.

Matsuoka said: “NHK and PTS has coproduced various projects in the past, but this is the first time that we, NHK’s regional station, will mainly be involved. We are very excited to work together with PTS, especially on such a wonderful topic – space. I am confident that this partnership will result in a great project.”

Shyu said: “This is a rare space programme filming project for Taiwan, and PTS is incredibly excited about the outcome of this collaboration.”
