Executive producer Jacqueline Bynon has launched a factual production company with backing from her former employer, Canada’s Cineflix Media.

Based in Toronto, More to the Story Media will develop and produce premium investigative true crime series, documentaries, movie and podcasts for global audiences.

Content will focus on high-profile cases and will honour victims and unearth the truth, according to the company, with several projects already in development.

The partnership gives Montreal-based Cineflix the first option to develop and coproduce original content with Bynon, while her projects will have access to services and development support from Cineflix Productions.

It also gives Cineflix Rights a first-look international distribution option for More to the Story Media content.

Bynon worked as a series producer, executive producer and showrunner at Cineflix Media for more than a decade. Her credits at the company include cold-case investigation documentary series and podcast The Clown & The Candyman, documentary specials Colleen Stan: The Girl in the Box and Elizabeth Shoaf: The Girl in the Bunker, true crime series Murder in Paradise and Cold Blood, and docuseries Nazi Hunters.

More to the Story Media is the latest in a line of production companies to have received backing from Cineflix Media.

In July, Cineflix teamed up with showrunner Morwyn Brebner and TV executive Andrew Akman to launch TV prodco Husk Media, joining other joint ventures such as Charles Tremayne’s new shingle First Story Productions, Pablo Salzman’s Connect3 Media and Marcella producer Buccaneer Media, led by Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart.

JC Mills, president and commercial director at Cineflix Productions, said: “Jacqueline was the driving force behind many of Cineflix’s standout investigative true crime series that saw success on an international scale. Integrity and purpose are woven through her work. What impresses me most is that Jacqueline leaves absolutely no stone unturned in her pursuit of the truth.”

Bynon, president of More to the Story Media, added: “There’s always more to a story than you hear on the news or in court, and that’s where I want to go. At its core, crime is about psychology and relationships, and the deeper we dig, the more we reveal the human tragedy at the centre of the story.

“Trust is a key ingredient that gives an investigative journalist the incentive to keep digging, and Cineflix has given me the freedom to pursue stories rigorously over the years. I’m excited to be partnering with them on More to the Story Media.”
