ITV/GMTV greenlight for Ragdoll

In the UK, ITV1 and breakfast broadcaster GMTV have teamed up to greenlight a sizeable job for Ragdoll Productions, the company behind the global hit Teletubbies.

Aimed at four-year-olds, Boobah is a (104×20') live-action series almost entirely cast with children. {There aren't any puppets or fluffy costumes,{ Ragdoll's creative director Anne Wood said here in Banff.

Wood declined to offer further details of the show aside from the fact that the title is a magical word that kids can use to make adults disappear.

She said she was in North America shopping the new show to US networks: {But after the success of Teletubbies, pitching any new show is proving surprisingly difficult,{ she admitted.

Ragdoll's shows were previously sold across North America by Itsy Bitsy Entertainment, but since a strategy rethink by the company's majority owner Handleman and the subsequent departure of Itsy Bitsy's ceo and founder Ken Viselman last summer, Ragdoll now sells its own product into the US through a New York office.
