Stephen Graham stars in ITV drama about real-life bid to assassinate MP

Stephen Graham in The Walk-In

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has unveiled a drama telling the true story of how a neo-Nazi plan to kill an MP was foiled by an inside man.

The commercial broadcaster’s head of drama Polly Hill has greenlit The Walk-In, written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jeff Pope and starring Stephen Graham.

The five-parter focuses on activist Matthew Collins, a reformed neo-Nazi, now working as a bona fide journalist for anti-racist organisation Hope Not Hate.

Bafta-winning director Paul Andrew Williams (A Confession, Murdered for Being Different, Broadchurch) directs the series having worked previously with Pope on A Confession and Isolation Stories. He is also executive producer alongside Pope (A Confession, Stan & Ollie, Little Boy Blue), Graham and Tom Dunbar (A Confession, Isolation Stories).

Forced to flee the UK and go into hiding in the 1990s when he became a mole from within the British National Party, Collins returned to Britain to make a new life for himself. The drama focuses on Collins and his work to stop the radicalisation of young white men, and how he prevented the murder of an MP in 2017 by infiltrating an extremist group plotting the killing.

The series is produced by Jo Johnson (Unsaid Stories, Ackley Bridge).

ITV Studios will be responsible for the international distribution of the series, which premieres on October 3.
