ITV Studios’ Romulus expands its empire

Romulus has already been pre-bought in 44 territories

Deutsche Telekom in Germany, MoreTV in Russia and Greece’s Cosmote are the latest networks to pre-buy ITV Studios’ forthcoming epic drama series Romulus.

Deutsche Telekom has acquired the historical drama, which tells the story of the foundation of Rome, for its MagentaTV OTT service, taking the total number of territories where it has been acquired to 44.

The latest deals follow pre-buys of the 10-part series by SBS in Australia and HBO Europe earlier this year.

Romulus, which has its Italian premiere at the Rome Film Festival tomorrow, will launch on Sky Atlantic and Now TV in Italy on November 6.

Produced by ITV Studios’ Italian label Cattleya, Sky and Rome-based Groenlandia, Romulus is set in the eighth century BCE along the banks of the Tiber river, in a primitive and brutal world where a man’s fate is decided by the merciless power of nature and the gods.

Seen through the eyes of three people marked by death, loneliness and violence, the men and women learn how to shape their own destinies, as a ferocious and protective female figure leads the formation of a new society – laying the foundations for one of the greatest empires ever.
