ITV Studios has appointed Tim Carter, the CEO of its production brands MultiStory Media and Twofour, as MD of unscripted in the UK.

The production and distribution arm of the UK commercial broadcaster has moved quickly to replace Angela Jain, who is joining Disney as head of content for streamer Disney+ in EMEA.

Carter will take over later this summer and assume responsibility for all of ITV Studios’ unscripted business in the UK, where it operates 11 unscripted labels. He will report to ITV Studios MD Julian Bellamy and will be part of the UK management team.

Between them, the labels are responsible for the creation and production of formats including Love Island, The Chase, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Come Dine With Me, as well as forthcoming shows such as The Neighbourhood, Celebrity Sabotage and Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters.

Carter will have overall responsibility for the UK unscripted group, with the MDs of the unscripted UK labels reporting directly to him. He will work with each label as well as the wider studios leadership team to support the continued growth and development of the UK unscripted business.

This gives him oversight of Potato (Bulls Eye with Freddie Flintoff, Beat the Chasers), Rollercoaster Television (You Bet, You Bet! On Tour), Boom (Y Llais), MultiStory Media (7 Up, Brianna: A Mother’s Story), Twofour (I Kissed a Boy/Girl, The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy), The Garden (Squid Game: The Challenge, 24 Hours in A&E), So Television (The Graham Norton Show), Lifted Entertainment (Love Island: All Stars, The Voice), Plimsoll (Extreme Planet Earth, A Real Bug’s Life) and Oxford Scientific Films (Magical Land of Oz, Secrets of the Elephants).

Before joining ITV Studios, Carter was CEO of Warner Bros label Twenty Twenty, building hit shows such as First Dates (Channel 4) and The Choir (BBC) into global brands. He also pushed Twenty Twenty into scripted, exec producing Garrow’s Law and Privates (both BBC).

Carter joined ITV Studios in 2017 as MD of MultiStory Media. He led the company’s rebrand from Shiver, before becoming CEO of MultiStory Media and sister label Twofour.

MultiStory Media’s slate includes Come Dine With Me, Pride of Britain, Kate Garraway’s Life Stories and recent documentary Brianna: A Mother’s Story.

Under Carter’s tenure at Twofour, meanwhile, the company has transformed its portfolio with shows such as The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy, for Apple TV+; I Kissed a Boy for the BBC; the upcoming Destination X for the BBC and NBC; and the return of Educating Yorkshire for Channel 4.

Bellamy said: “Angela has been a fantastic leader at ITV Studios for eight years, with a remit that’s spanned some of the UK’s biggest and best factual and entertainment shows. Angela’s surefooted editorial judgement, creative eye and commitment has played a key role in the success of ITV Studios. We’ll all miss her hugely, but really look forward to working with her at Disney.

“Tim’s success during his tenure at MultiStory and Twofour speaks for itself. His wealth of experience and knowledge in the unscripted market made him the natural successor to Angela. I’ve no doubt ITV Studios’ UK unscripted business will go from strength to strength under his leadership.”
