ITV, Stephen Fry feel sense of Jeopardy with reboot of classic US format

Former QI presenter Stephen Fry will host Jeopardy!

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a reboot of classic US gameshow Jeopardy!, to be hosted by Stephen Fry and produced by Whisper North.

The US quiz format will return to UK screens on ITV1 and ITVX this autumn as a weekday entertainment show, having first come to UK telly in the 1980s on Channel 4. It was later revived by ITV and Sky in the 1990s.

The new 20×60′ episode series will see contestants use their general knowledge to win rounds and amass winnings the longer they stay in the game. The reboot will allow participants to play an extra round compared with the original format, increasing the stakes for the players.

The executive producers are Kerri Reid, Tom McLennan and Fry. It was commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s head of entertainment, and Leanne Clarke, ITV’s entertainment commissioner.

The original US quizshow is produced by Sony Pictures Television, part of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution, which also shops the format rights.

Currently in its 39th season, Jeopardy! is one of the longest-running US gameshows of all time.

Rawcliffe said: “Bringing Jeopardy! to a brand-new audience as part of our weekday schedule is exciting. There is no one better to host this classic gameshow than Stephen, bringing knowledge and entertainment to all of our viewers.”
