ITV opens Seefood TV’s The Box, seeks prodco to adapt Norwegian format

Prodco Seefood TV is behind The Box

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has acquired the rights to Norwegian format The Box and is seeking a production company to produce a local adaptation.

Created and originally produced by Seefood TV, The Box premiered on Norway’s TV2 last month, where it has been commissioned for a second season.

The format, which seeks to test people’s fear of the unknown, sees contestants being placed in boxes and transferred to different locations, before being released to take on whatever is on the other side of the door.

ITV is currently out to tender to appoint a prodco to produce a British version of the format.

Katie Rawcliffe, director of entertainment and daytime at ITV, said: “The Box is an exhilarating and immersive new format that will not only test our contestants but also invite our viewers on the ultimate TV experience, privy to the contestants’ gameplay and strategy – but will they be able to foresee the outcome?”
