ITV, Netflix Australia and Roku pick up comedies from Canada’s New Metric

Netflix has picked up S1 of Shoresy in Australia

UK broadcaster ITV has picked up the first four seasons of Canadian comedy series Shoresy (24×40’) and extended its existing licensing agreement for all 12 seasons of the show it is spun off from, Letterkenny (81×30’).

The deals are among several agreed by the producer and distributor of the shows, Toronto-based New Metric Media, which has also lined up deals for several other series with Netflix in Australia, US SVoD platform and prodco The Wonder Project and with Roku in multiple territories.

Netflix in Australia picked up the rights to season one of Shoresy, while The Wonder Project, which is set to launch via Prime Video on October 5, has acquired all four seasons of Children Ruin Everything (50×30’) and Roku has acquired Sasha Leigh Henry’s Bria Mack Gets A Life (6×30’) for the US, UK, Canada and Mexico.

In addition, Canadian in-flight entertainment programmer Anuvu acquired the first seasons of Letterkenny, Shoresy, Children Ruin Everything, Bria Mack Gets a Life and What Would Sal Do (8×30’) for airline Air Canada.

The licensing news comes as New Metric gears up to reveal its latest series Hate the Player: The Ben Johnson Story and bear-wrangling comedy I Kill the Bear to buyers at a screening on October 13 at Mipcom in Cannes.

The deals were led by Jennifer Oppenheimer, who was recently elevated to director of distribution and content partnerships at New Metric.

Oppenheimer said the deals demonstrate that Canadian comedy “doesn’t just travel, it builds dedicated followings and makes a lasting impact with audiences around the world.”
