ITV lines up atoms for preschool push

UK network ITV is banking on five sparkling atoms to pull in the preschool audiences previously hooked on Teletubbies.

The commercial network hopes that live-action show Boohbah (104×20') will pick up where Tinky Winky, Po, Lala and Dipsy left off. Produced by Teletubbies creator Ragdoll, the new series features characters Humbah, Zumbah, Zing Zing Zingbah, Jumbah and Jingbah. Chants and laughter spark the characters into action.

{We have once again tried to push the boundaries of children’s television and we believe that Boohbah will encourage confidence, a ‘what if’ thought process and most importantly, laughter both here in the UK or across the world,{ said Ragdoll founder and creative director Anne Wood.

Ragdoll has a strong track record in preschool programming. In addition to the Teletubbies, the UK outfit has produced Rosie And Jim, Tots TV, Brum, Open A Door and BadJelly The Witch.

From next week Boohbah will air daily on CiTV in the 15.15 slot and also during GMTV, the network's breakfast time franchise.
