ITV is Sitting on a Fortune with Lineker

Sports broadcaster and new host of Sitting on a Fortune, Gary Lineker

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned quizshow Sitting on a Fortune, with football pundit and former footballer Gary Lineker attached to host.

Produced by the ITV Studios (ITVS) label Possessed, Sitting on a Fortune was first announced at the ITVS Formats Festival last year, although details of the commissioning broadcaster were not revealed at the time.

The quizshow sees six players position themselves in a row of chairs, but only the contestant in the front seat is asked the questions. A correct answer keeps them in their seat, but a wrong answer sends them to the back of the line and the rest of the players move up one seat. At the end of each round, the player at the back is eliminated, until only one contestant remains.

ITV has placed a seven-episode series order to be broadcast on the channel this autumn.

Meanwhile, ITV has commissioned a one-off doc to mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack this autumn. 9/11: Life Under Attack revisits the tragic events in 2001 to tell the personal stories of those who lived through them.

Featuring previously unseen footage and images, along with unheard audio from those involved, the programme pieces together the story of how the authorities reacted, coped and tried to regain some semblance of control over events.

Elsewhere, ITV’s sister network ITV2 has commissioned The Social Media Murders, a series of three films featuring shocking real crimes involving young people. Linking them all is the unsettling role social media played in bringing together the culprit and the victim.
