ITV gears up to scale UK version of adventure reality format The Summit

The Summit was created by Endemol Shine Australia for Nine Network

UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned a local version of adventure reality series The Summit.

Produced by Shine TV, part of Banijay UK, the series will air on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player in 2025.

In the show, 14 strangers from all walks of life will face the daunting challenge of climbing a mountain on New Zealand’s South Island. They will also face the ultimate test of strategy and resilience as they compete for a share of a potential cash prize.

With 14 days to reach the summit, and an equal share of the prize fund in their backpacks, the contestants will have to navigate treacherous terrain and wild conditions and overcome challenges – set by the Mountain’s Keeper – that block their path to the peak.

Hosted by Ben Shephard, ITV’s version of The Summit was commissioned by director of reality commissioning and acquisitions Paul Mortimer and commissioning editor for reality Amanda Stavri. The executive producers are Matt Bennett and Mandy Morris.

The Summit was originally created by Endemol Shine Australia for local broadcaster Nine, where it premiered in May 2023. It is distributed internationally by Banijay Entertainment, which recently sealed deals for local adaptations with RTL in the Netherlands, MTV in Finland and TV2 in Norway.
