ITV drawn to UK version of Mattel’s Pictionary to be created by Whisper North

The US version of Pictionary is hosted by Jerry O’Connell

MIPCOM: UK pubcaster ITV has commissioned a gameshow based on the classic Mattel-owned board game Pictionary.

The UK show will be produced by Whisper North for ITV and streamer ITVX, with UK actress and comedian Mel Giedroyc hosting.

ITV ordered 25 half-hour episodes of the show, with the first set to be a Christmas special.

Paramount Global Content Distribution handled the licensing pact with ITV and is shopping the format here in Cannes. Laura Burrell, VP of international formats for Paramount’s distribution arm, brokered the deal.

ITV said the show would follow the same rules as the game, with two teams taking part in a sketch-based guessing game. Each team will be led by a celebrity captain.

A syndicated version of the series airs in the US, hosted by Jerry O’Connell and produced by Fox First Run, Bill’s Market & Television Productions and Mattel Television Studios. Paramount Global Content Distribution handles the format rights.

The UK Pictionary series was commissioned by ITV’s director of entertainment and daytime commissioning Katie Rawcliffe and assistant commissioner Leanne Clarke.

Executive producers on the series are Kerri Reid and Tom McLennan from Whisper North, which also produced the UK iterations of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune for ITV.
