It’s a Sin is set during the 1980s AIDS crisis

Lionsgate-owned international streamer StarzPlay has taken exclusive rights to UK drama It’s a Sin in Germany and Italy.

Produced by Red Production Company (Years & Years) and written by Russell T Davies (Doctor Who, Queer as Folk), It’s a Sin was first commissioned by Channel 4 in the UK, with US streamer HBO Max coproducing.

The five-parter explores friendship and love during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and stars Olly Alexander, Omari Douglas, Callum Scott Howells and Lydia West.

Distributed by All3Media International, It’s a Sin was written and executive produced by Davies, with Nicola Shindler (Happy Valley, The Stranger) also exec producing. According to Channel 4, the show is its most ‘binged’ series of all time on OTT platform All4.

Superna Kalle, exec VP, Starz International Digital Networks, said: “It’s a Sin has everything that StarzPlay looks to offer our audience, who have come to expect edgy and provocative content from our service – an award-winning writer, an extremely talented cast and a beautiful and poignant story with complex characters set in an important time in history.”
