Italy’s Rai 2 hits The Floor with Talpa quiz format adapted by Blu Yazmine

Quizshow format The Floor

Italian public broadcaster Rai has commissioned a local version of Dutch quizshow format The Floor following a deal with Holland’s Talpa Distribution.

The show will air on Rai 2 and will be produced in Turin by Blu Yazmine, the indie founded by Ilaria Dallatana, Francesca Canetta and Carlo Bergamo in 2020.

The Floor sees 100 contestants face off in quiz duels on a giant LED floor divided into 100 squares, each representing its own field of knowledge. The goal is to conquer the floor and take home a cash prize.

The format has previously been picked up by Fox in the US, where Eureka Productions will produce the show; Dogan Media-owned Romanian network Kanal D; France Télévisions, with Satisfaction Group producing; Sat.1 in Germany, where it will be made by Seven. One Entertainment Group; and Spain’s Atresmedia, with Mediacrest producing.

RTL4 in the Netherlands commissioned the original and recently renewed the Dutch version.

Dallatana, CEO at Blu Yazmine, described The Floor as “an innovative game entertainment show with a strong visual impact and immediate playability for all ages.”

Sebastian van Barneveld, Talpa’s director of international distribution, added: “The Floor is travelling at an excitingly fast pace. I’m convinced it has everything to do with its easy-to-understand and clean gameplay, its incredible visual spectacle and its great play-along nature. Rai 2 has a rich history of being the first to launch big brands in Italy.”
