Fox, Lee Daniels adapt Israeli comedy

20th Century Fox and Lee Daniels Entertainment in the US are prepping a put pilot based on Israeli comedy format Nevsu.

Modern Family and 30 Rock writer Vali Chandrasekaram is on board the as-yet-unnamed series, which follows a man from an overbearing African family and his wife from a reserved midwestern background attempt to build a normal life together.

It is based on the original Israeli series Nevsu: A Young Multicultural Couple, an Endemol Shine Israel production for broadcaster Reshet.

The executive producers are Lee Daniels, Pam William and Marc Velez, plus original creators Yossi Vassa, Shai Ben-Atar and Liat Shavit, and Endemol Shine Israel in association with Endemol Shine North America.

A put pilot is one that a network is obliged to air, with a cash penalty if it doesn’t.
