Irvine Welsh signs with UK indie Revelation Films for documentary Underdog

Scottish author Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting) has signed on to UK indie Revelation Films’ forthcoming feature doc Underdog.

Irvine Welsh

Underdog (90’) tells the life story of Andy Swallow, who in the 1970s founded English football club West Ham United’s hooligan firm The Inter City Firm (ICF). He was also a DJ and party promoter for the illegal raves held in disused warehouses in London and in open fields in Essex and surrounding areas.

In the 1980s, Swallow launched Centreforce Radio, the first 24-hour pirate radio station dedicated to playing music of the rave era, which eventually became legal. He is also the founder of record labels Labelo Blanco and Public Demand Records.

Filming on the doc has commenced and is taking place in London, Rome, Austria, Switzerland and Tenerife until February 2024. The film will be available for delivery in June 2024.

Revelation Films’ principal Trevor Drane said: “We’re thrilled to announce the signing of such a well-respected, internationally renowned author and lauded voice on British culture. Irvine Welsh is one of the most revered writers of his generation, especially on street culture so it’s been a major result in securing him for our new feature documentary.”
