Smith is tasked with driving the development and delivery of RTÉ’s fact ent slate by working in partnership with the Irish creative industry.

The broadcaster said the appointment of Smith is in line with its New Direction Strategy and commitment to increase programming orders from the independent production sector.

Prior to joining RTÉ, Smith worked for several years in indie production. With a background in fact ent and content development across both broadcast and digital platforms, she has executive producer credits on shows such as The Traitors, First Dates, DIY SOS and Best Place to Be.

Smith said: “I’m delighted to take on this role at such a key time for RTÉ and I look forward to working with the exceptional talent in the Irish independent sector to identify and nurture ideas that deliver for the Irish audience.”

Alan Tyler, head of entertainment at RTÉ, said: “Teresa is a hugely talented and experienced executive producer with credits from First Dates to High Road Low Road and the forthcoming Traitors.”

Steve Carson, director of video at RTÉ, said Smith has “a great track record of developing and commissioning entertaining formats and will now lead a slate at the heart of our strategy of serving audiences on TV while growing the RTÉ Player.”
