New York Times best-selling author Shea Serrano

Amazon-owned AVoD service IMDb TV has commissioned the single-camera comedy, Primo (working title), from creator Shea Serrano and executive producer Michael Schur.

The half-hour project is produced by Amazon Studios and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and tells the story of Serrano’s life growing up in San Antonio. It will stream exclusively in the US and UK on IMDb TV.

Serrano, a New York Times best-selling author behind books including The Rap Year Book, is executive producing alongside Schur, who is the creator behind NBC’s The Good Place.

Schur also co-created Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Peacock original Rutherford Falls, and was a writer-producer on the US version of The Office.

Other exec producers on the project are David Miner for California-based 3 Arts Entertainment and Morgan Sackett.

The series is described as a “heartwarming and highly entertaining coming-of-age comedy about a teenager balancing college aspirations, societal expectations and a hectic home life anchored by his single mom and five uncles.”

IMDb TV’s programming slate includes: upcoming court programme Judy Justice, set to premiere on November 1, as well as heist drama Leverage: Redemption; a spin-off of the police procedural Bosch; comedy series Sprung; home design series the Untitled Jeff Lewis Project; half-hour drama On Call from executive producer Dick Wolf; British spy thriller Alex Rider; and Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers.
