Hulu, Prime Video Canada commission teen comedy from Evany Rosen, Marblemedia

Davey & Jonesie’s Locker follows two friends who find a secret portal to the multiverse

US streamer Hulu and Amazon’s Prime Video in Canada have co-commissioned Davey & Jonesie’s Locker, a teen comedy series from creator Evany Rosen (New Eden, Baroness Von Sketch Show, The Spencer Sisters).

Produced by Canadian prodco Marblemedia, the 10×30’ series follows two lovably eccentric best friends who have always felt like outsiders at their high school. When they realise their locker is a secret portal to the multiverse, they jump at the chance to escape the banal reality of their school life.

It stars Veronika Slowikowska (What We Do in the Shadows, Baroness Von Sketch Show) and Jaelynn Thora Brooks (Heartland), in addition to Dan Beirne, Emily Piggford, Nikko Angelo Hinayo, Kevin Lauta Osea, Erika Swayze, Sydney Xiaolang Topliffe, Alexa Yaphe, Parker Lauzon, James Hartnett and Rosen. Filming wrapped recently in Toronto.

The show is a rarity in the sense that it is co-commissioned by a US streaming service in tandem with the Canadian branch of a separate US-based streamer. Prime Video will also show it in Australia and New Zealand.

For Marblemedia, which in recent years has focused on factual competition series such as Blown Away (Netflix), Race Against the Tide (CBC) and Drink Masters (Netflix), the series is part of an expanded push into scripted. The company also produces scripted titles including family comedy The Parker Andersons/Amelia Parker (Super Channel, BYUtv).

In addition to co-creating the Crave original New Eden and being an experienced TV comedy writer, Rosen is also a founding member of the Canadian comedy troupe Picnicface.

Davey & Jonesie’s Locker is produced by Marblemedia in association with Hulu and Prime Video, with the financial participation of the Shaw Rocket Fund.

Exec producers on the series include Mark Bishop, Matt Hornburg, Diane Rankin, Carrie Paupst Shaughnessy, AJ Trauth and Rosen, who also serves as showrunner. Donna Luke is co-executive producer. Marblemedia’s distribution arm, Distribution 360, holds worldwide sales rights.
